Customizing Your Rhinoplasty With Dr. Rousso

What does Rhinoplasty treat?

Unappealing Nasal Characteristics

Individuals who are unhappy with the appearance of their noses can benefit from nose surgery. Nose surgery can reduce or increase the size of the nose, narrow the nostrils, change the shape of the nasal tip, adjust the bridge, and even alter the angle between the nose and upper lip. Rhinoplasty can transform a nose that detracts from your facial aesthetic to one that enhances it and improves balance, proportion and harmony.

Nasal Defects or Injuries

Men and women who have nasal defects, such as congenital deformities, can enhance nasal appearance, structure, and confidence with rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty can also correct injuries that may have occurred due to athletic activities or accidents. In the experienced hands of our plastic surgeons, Dr. Daniel Rousso and Dr. Austin Adams, even significant unsightly deformities or injuries can be corrected with nose surgery. They have solutions for even the most complex cases.

Nasal Breathing Problems

Those who suffer from nasal breathing problems can relieve their ailments with nose surgery. These problems are often the result of a deviated nasal septum. Through rhinoplasty, the structures of the nose can be manipulated to correct a deviated septum and restore open airways. This can enable you to breathe through your nose with improved ease after your surgery.

How Does Rhinoplasty Work?

Dr. Rousso and Dr. Adams use the latest facial plastic surgery techniques and the most advanced technologies with each rhinoplasty they perform. Every case is unique so our plastic surgeons use the appropriate combination of techniques to suit each patient’s individual characteristics for the best possible results. This allows our doctors deliver the most natural outcome for each patient.

Closed Rhinoplasty

Anesthesia is administered in preparation for the surgery. Once in effect, your plastic surgeon begins the operation by hiding incisions inside the nose to minimize scarring. Through these incisions, the structure of the nose is adjusted according to your desires expressed in your consultation. A splint is then applied to help your nose maintain its shape. Upon completion, a dissolvable suture is also applied to stabilize the septum so that you will not need any nasal packing.

A closed rhinoplasty is reserved for those who need minor adjustments. This technique is used to hide incisions within the nose but can sometimes limit what is possible with rhinoplasty. For this reason, open rhinoplasty may be more appropriate for some patients.

Open Rhinoplasty

Each patient is administered anesthesia in preparation for surgery. The procedure begins with a small incision at the base of the nose on the strip of tissue separating the nostrils, called the columella. This incision allows the surgeon to open the nose and freely adjust the nasal tissues and structures to match your desires. The incision may leave a small, inconspicuous scar at the base of the nose. Upon completion, a splint will be used to stabilize your nose in its new shape. The septum will be stabilized with a dissolvable suture so that you will not need nasal packing.

Open rhinoplasty is performed on those who need significant adjustments, corrections, a second rhinoplasty, and on those who have severe asymmetries.

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for rhinoplasty are individuals who would like to improve the appearance, size, or shape of their nose or who have nasal defects, injuries, or impaired breathing they would like to correct. The best candidates for cosmetic rhinoplasty are looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way their noses look. Even though dramatic changes can be made, patients should have realistic expectations. Rhinoplasty can help patients by enhancing their appearance and boosting their self-confidence.

Why All My Rhinoplasties Are All Unique

Why All My Rhinoplasties Are All Unique - Dr. Adams

Pain During and After Rhinoplasty

Anesthesia prevents all feelings of pain during surgery. The use of a special dissolvable suture for the nasal septum eradicates the need for packing, which dramatically reduces postoperative discomfort. Because pain may be experienced as feeling returns to the nose during recovery, mild pain relievers may be used to alleviate any temporary discomfort. Any intensity of pain will normally only last for 36–72 hours but may last longer if the nose is bumped or manipulated.

Rhinoplasty Results

Early results will be visible as soon as most of the swelling has subsided about two weeks after the operation. The results at this time will be mostly finalized, but slight changes will occur as the internal nasal structures adjust and swelling continues to subside. By one year after the rhinoplasty, your results will be final. Many of our patients tell us rhinoplasty has restored their confidence, facial harmony and beauty.

Recovery After Rhinoplasty

Many patients feel that recovery from rhinoplasty with Dr. Rousso and Dr. Adams is easier than they anticipated. After rhinoplasty, a little bleeding may occur during the first few days. By the end of the first week, the splint is removed. Most of the swelling and bruising after rhinoplasty disappears within two weeks. By two weeks after surgery, patients can return to light activities although a feeling of stuffiness in the nose may continue for several weeks. Patients should refrain from contact sports or extreme physical activity for a full six weeks to avoid the risk of injury to the nose.

I had a revision rhinoplasty done by Dr. Rousso. He and his team were amazing. My experience was nothing short of phenomenal. My nose looks great. I had no complications after the procedure. He has given me the gift of breathing and looking great at the same time. I cannot say enough great things about this place. This was my second time going through rhinoplasty, so I know what a bad experience looks and feels like. I was so glad I found Dr. Rousso to do my revision as he has got many years of experience and I had heard from many satisfied patients. Even other physicians are saying great things about him. To me, he is the best surgeon in America.

FAQ

What kind of anesthesia will be used?

Rhinoplasty can be performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation. With general anesthesia, you will sleep through the procedure. With IV sedation, you will be heavily sedated but breathing on your own. Your nose and the area around it will be numbed, and you will feel drowsy during the surgery.

How long is the procedure?

Rhinoplasty usually takes one or two hours, though extensive surgeries may take longer.

Can I receive other procedures at the same time as nose surgery?

Nose surgery is often performed with other facial cosmetic procedures, such as eyelid surgery, chin augmentation and facelift surgery. Your cosmetic surgeon can help you determine if you’ll benefit from undergoing additional procedures with your nose surgery.

Will I have a scar after rhinoplasty?

Closed rhinoplasty has no visible scarring. Open rhinoplasty may leave a scar at the base of the nose where the incision was placed. However, this scar is usually minor and inconspicuous. Scars typically fade over time.

Can children or teenagers get rhinoplasty?

Individuals should be at least 14 to 15 years old to qualify for rhinoplasty. Younger children may not be physically or emotionally mature enough for the procedure.

How long do rhinoplasty results last?

The results from rhinoplasty will last a lifetime. You will be able to enjoy your new nose for many years to come.
