A chemical peel can smooth damaged skin and take years off your face, giving you a more youthful, refreshed appearance. Chemical peels resolve sunspots and natural discoloration, diminish acne and acne scarring, and defy aging by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles and plumping the skin.
What is a deep chemical peel?
A deep chemical peel is the most intense peel you can receive and can target very even deep wrinkles and scar tissue. Deep peels provide a more aggressive, stronger exfoliation with results that last for years.
During a deep chemical peel, a solution is applied in 15-minute intervals. This solution penetrates the skin, deeply exfoliates and causes upper layers of skin to peel off. Underneath is your fresh, new skin. The deeper the peel, the more impact it has and the more dramatic the results are.
A deep chemical peel comes with more significant benefits, but also more significant downtime. Because they are so intense, a deep peel should only be done once every couple of years.
When should you get one?
It might be time for a deep chemical peel if you want to see dramatic results and are ready to take an aggressive approach to target the following concerns:
- Acne scars
- Other scarring
- Uneven skin tone (hyperpigmentation)
- Uneven skin texture
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Loose skin
- Pre-cancerous growths
The best time of year for a deep peel is in the cooler winter months, when your skin will be more protected during the recovery time and the air is more dry. Since a peel is designed to exfoliate and allow the skin to dry and peel off, dry weather helps with this.
Deep chemical peel with Rousso
At Rousso Facial Plastic Surgery, a deep chemical peel is performed by our board-certified facial plastic surgeons in our private outpatient clinic. We provide IV sedation and local anesthesia to make you comfortable and ensure you don’t experience pain. A cotton-tipped applicator will be used to apply the peel liquid to your face. The peel liquid is made by carefully mixing solutions to create a “Baker-Gordon Formula” or phenol-based formula. If the entire face is treated, your deep peel may require up to 90 minutes to complete. Once the procedure is finished, we will apply a special gel to your face to help soothe it.
