What to Expect from NeoGraft
Many people seeking hair transplantation therapies are concerned about downtime after a traditional hair transplant surgery. However, NeoGraft patients can typically resume everyday activities within a few days. After seven to 10 days, the transplanted hair will be safely rooted under the scalp, and hair will have grown long enough to hide the donor site.
Hair Transplant Before & After
Most patients experience little to no pain during the process and during the recovery phase. After the procedure, the grafted hair stays in place for several weeks before it sheds, which is a normal and important part of the new growth process. New growth normally begins in three to four months, and the hair will continue growing normally, leaving patients with healthy, natural-looking results.
How Does NeoGraft Work?
The hair transplantation procedure is split into two parts: the first involves harvesting the hair follicles needed; the second involves placing the follicles into the thinning or balding areas. Harvesting takes approximately two to four hours and requires patients to lie face down. To begin, local anesthesia is applied to the area being treated. Then, individual follicular groupings consisting of one to four hairs are extracted using pneumatic pressure through our state-of-the-art NeoGraft device.
Once the harvesting is completed, patients may take a short break before beginning the second phase. The second part of the procedure begins with the patient sitting upright while the thinning or balding area is locally anesthetized. Next, the extracted follicles are placed in this area in the natural-looking pattern discussed with your cosmetic surgeon prior to operation. The duration of the procedure varies depending on your goals and the amount of hair to be replaced.

What is the Recovery Like After Treatment?
The recovery time will vary, based on the type of hair restoration technique needed in your case. If the strip method (FUT) was performed, slightly longer recovery time is needed for the incision site to heal. Some discomfort, swelling, bruising, and a tight scalp sensation is to be expected. Pain medication to keep you comfortable in the early stages of healing. You should plan on taking about one week off work to rest and recover after FUT restorations.
If your restoration was performed with FUE, the donor follicles are harvested singly, rather than in a strip, leaving only a small round incision site which heals quickly, and no stitches are necessary. Most people return to work within two or three days after the procedure and experience little discomfort.
With both procedures, it takes time for the transplanted hairs to begin to produce hair, generally two to three months. By about the four to the six-month mark, the new hair growth is more visible, and by the 12 to the 18-month mark, the final result is achieved, with the thinning or balding area restored.
