What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is one of the world’s first dermal fillers used to treat lipoatrophy, a condition that causes facial fat loss, leading to hollow cheeks and deep facial indentations. In 2014, Sculptra also received FDA approval as a treatment for wrinkles and fine lines. Sculptra dermal fillers are composed of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a collagen stimulator that produces effective results that last up to 2 years.

How does Sculptra work?

Collagen is a fiber protein found deep underneath the skin’s surface, and it’s primarily responsible for the skin’s structure and elasticity. When you’re young, your skin has ample collagen, making your skin look fresh and taut. However, your skin’s ability to produce collagen decreases with time, leading to over 25% collagen loss by the time you’re 45, resulting in skin laxity, wrinkles, and other signs of aging.

Sculptra is composed of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), an ingredient that facilitates collagen production in the deep dermis. As your skin produces fresh collagen fibers, they gradually help restore facial volume, reducing wrinkles and fine lines. In most cases, our master estheticians recommend a series of three injections over three or four months to gradually rebuild your skin’s collagen foundation. As such, you’ll see the results gradually over several months.

What does Sculptra treat?

Restylane Silk is the first dermal filler formulated with the anesthetic lidocaine, and specifically, FDA-approved for rejuvenation of lines around the mouth and lips. Like Restylane, Restylane Silk is a hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler made from long chains of sugars that exist naturally in the skin. It’s uniquely formulated to fill in lines with a softer consistency and delivers a very natural look.

What happens during the Sculptra procedure?

Our cosmetic professionals will examine your facial skin and discuss your medical history during your initial consultation, asking you about specific medical conditions and allergies. If you’re a suitable candidate, we will create a treatment map on your face, i.e., they’ll use a pen to mark the strategically-targeted injection spots. They’ll apply topical or local anesthesia to ensure comfort during the procedure. Finally, the esthetician will carefully inject Sculptra into all the required sites using very fine needles.

What is recovery from Sculptra like?

You may experience temporary and mild redness, tenderness, bruising and swelling immediately after the treatment, but you’ll be able to resume most of your daily activities. You’ll be advised to avoid direct sunlight or tanning beds for a few days. You’ll notice significant improvements immediately, but the results will continue improving over several months, lasting for 18 to 24 months.
