Having received FDA approval in 2019, Jeuveau is the latest injectable neuromodulator for mild to severe wrinkles and fine lines between the eyebrows. As an injectable neuromodulator, it’s similar to its predecessors — Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. However, the #NEWTOX is slightly more affordable than Botox. At Rousso Adams Facial Plastic Surgery Clinic, we carefully examine your skin type and cosmetic expectations to provide strategically-targeted Jeuveau injections.
What is Jeuveau?
Jeuveau is a neurotoxin modulator composed of onabotulinumtoxinA (botulinum toxin type A) that has recently received FDA-approval to treat frown lines or glabella lines. Wrinkles and fine lines occur because of facial muscular contractions. Jeuveau is a neuromuscular blocking toxin that prevents the transmission of signals between the nerve endings and the targeted facial muscles, leading to temporary muscular paralysis and relaxation. By preventing muscle contractions, it smooths your skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
What does Jeuveau treat?
Jeuveau has received FDA approval to treat the glabella lines or frown lines, i.e., the short vertical lines between the eyebrows that grow prominent while concentrating. These vertical lines usually occur due to the overuse of the corrugator supercilii, a set of muscles close to the eyes. As you grow older, these vertical lines deepen and grow more prominent. Jeuveau treats mild to severe frown lines, making your forehead look smooth and taut. In some cases, Jeuveau can also be used to smoothen the wrinkles on your forehead.
What happens during the Jeuveau procedure?
During your consultation, our aesthetic professionals will examine your frown lines and skin type to determine if you’re suitable for Jeuveau. If so, the doctor will inject Jeuveau neurotoxins into strategically-determined locations around your face to reduce the appearance of frown lines. The doctor must carefully identify the targeted spots to avoid potential side effects.
What is recovery from Jeuveau like?
Jeuveau is a nonsurgical treatment without any downtime or significant side effects. At most, you’ll experience some swelling, minor bruising, or redness, but those side effects will fade away quickly. You can resume most of your daily activities immediately. You’ll start seeing the treatment results after three to five days, and the results will last for three to six months.
What is recovery from Dysport like?
You may experience some swelling, redness, and bruising in the injection sites immediately after the treatment. However, the swelling and redness will dissipate soon, although the exact duration varies from patient to patient. You’ll start seeing the treatment results within about 3 days, and you may continue seeing improvements for a week.
Am I a suitable candidate for Jeuveau?
You’re a suitable candidate for Jeuveau if you have mild to severe frown lines that you want to smoothen. You may not be suitable for Jeuveau if you:
- Are under 18 years of age.
- Are pregnant or nursing.
- Have a history of neuromuscular problems.
- Are allergic to any of the Jeuveau components.
