Xeomin is an FDA-approved neurotoxin injectable used in the treatment of fine to moderate dynamic lines often appearing between the eyebrows. It’s one of the most effective injectable cosmetic treatments for lines and wrinkles and at Rousso Adams Facial Plastic Surgery, we personalize its use to your specific needs and skin type, ensuring the best and most natural results.
What is Xeomin?
Xeomin is a neurotoxin containing botulinum toxin type A, the same component found in Botox, with slightly different makeup. Like all neurotoxins, Xeomin attaches itself to the nerve endings in certain facial muscles, preventing the release of a chemical (acetylcholine) that leads to muscle contractions that cause wrinkles and fine lines. By blocking certain nerve signals, Xeomin temporarily relaxes or paralyzes the targeted facial muscles, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Xeomin diminishes the appearance of existing dynamic lines and wrinkles and prevents new ones from forming in the same area.
What does Xeomin treat?
Xeomin is FDA-approved to reduce the appearance of “frown lines,” the wrinkles between the eyebrows. However, in some cases, we may also use it to reduce fine lines and wrinkles from other parts of your face, including crow’s feet, forehead horizontal lines, etc. Xeomin is usually recommended for treating moderate to severe wrinkles and fine lines, as determined by our aesthetic professionals. Besides its cosmetic value, Xeomin can also be used medically to treat neck muscle spasms, muscle stiffness, chronic drooling, and a few other medical conditions.
What happens during the Xeomin procedure?
During your initial consultation, our aesthetic professionals will examine your skin type and the severity of your facial wrinkles, and discuss your cosmetic expectations, to determine if you’re a suitable candidate for Xeomin injections. Following the consultation, the doctor will carefully inject the Xeomin neurotoxin into strategically targeted locations around your eyebrows and foreheads to relax the necessary facial muscles and smoothen the skin.
What happens after the Xeomin procedure?
After administering the injections, our aesthetic professionals will discuss the post-procedural recovery guidelines. Since Xeomin is a nonsurgical and outpatient treatment, you can return home immediately after the procedure and resume most of your daily activities.
What is recovery from Xeomin like?
You may notice some redness, swelling, and bruising around the injection sites immediately after the procedure, but these minor side effects will fade away soon. Xeomin’s results usually become evident after five to seven days, and they start fading away after three to four months. Once the results fade away, you’ll need to schedule regular maintenance treatments to maintain your smooth facial appearance.
Am I a suitable candidate for Xeomin?
You’re a suitable candidate for Xeomin if you want to restore your facial youthfulness by reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It’s generally meant for people with moderate to severe wrinkles, but your esthetician is best suited to determine that. Xeomin is suitable for most adults, except those who have facial infections or those who are allergic to botulinum toxins or other Xeomin components.
